At Bialtec, we reaffirm our commitment to innovation and sustainability in the agri-food industry. We are proud to be part of the research project “Sustainably Produced Chicken Meat”, a collaborative initiative aiming to transform broiler chicken feeding practices toward more responsible and efficient solutions.
A Holistic Approach to Sustainable Poultry
The goal of this project is to develop poultry feed that contains at least 20% more sustainable raw materials, reducing dependency on imported ingredients and minimizing competition with human food sources. This must be achieved without negatively impacting other key aspects of the production chain, such as animal health and welfare, performance, and the carbon footprint of chicken meat.
Working with Leading Industry Partners
In addition to Bialtec, the project brings together the expertise of several renowned partners:
- Feed Innovation Services (Wageningen): Dutch-based consultancy specializing in research and innovation across both animal and human nutrition.
- Beneficial Microbes Consultancy (Wageningen): Led by Dr. Koen Venema, this consultancy focuses on microbiome research and the health benefits of probiotics.
- ForFarmers (Lochem): An international leader in animal nutrition committed to reducing its CO₂ emissions by one-third as part of its long-term sustainability goals.
- Marvesa (The Hague): A trusted producer and supplier of oils and fats for animal nutrition, focused on food safety, transparency, and sustainability.
Bialtec’s Role in the Project
Bialtec brings to the table its biotechnology expertise in fermentation-based solutions that improve nutrient conversion efficiency, reduce reliance on imported ingredients, and support gut health in poultry. Our focus is on developing innovative additives and nutritional strategies that promote more sustainable and profitable poultry production.
A Collective Effort for a More Sustainable Future
This project is part of the 2021–2027 Eastern Netherlands ERDF Program, which strengthens regional innovation and contributes to the energy transition. At Bialtec, we believe collaboration and innovation are key to building a more sustainable future for food production.
