Is it possible to produce chicken meat more sustainably without compromising bird health and performance? This is one of the key challenges driving new research in animal nutrition and bringing companies across Europe together to develop more efficient and sustainable alternatives.
At Bialtec, we are part of Sustainably Produced Chicken Meat, an international project aimed at transforming broiler nutrition by developing feed formulations that reduce the use of grains and soy while incorporating alternative raw materials and biotechnological solutions.
New Alternatives for More Sustainable Poultry Production
The poultry industry faces the challenge of making better use of resources, reducing its environmental footprint, and maintaining production efficiency.
One promising approach is the development of feed formulations that incorporate circular raw materials, such as valuable by-products from other production chains, reducing dependence on ingredients that are also used for human consumption.
The project aims to develop nutritional alternatives that can reduce grain and soy use by at least 20%, without compromising bird health, welfare, or production performance.
Biotechnology as a Key Enabler of Sustainable Nutrition
At Bialtec, we contribute our expertise in probiotic microencapsulation and in vitro gastrointestinal simulation, technologies that allow us to study how beneficial microorganisms behave during digestion and explore their potential to improve nutrient utilization.
Our involvement focuses on investigating how the intestinal microbiota and probiotic solutions can support the development of diets containing alternative ingredients, seeking a balance between sustainability, gut health, and nutritional efficiency.
International Collaboration to Transform the Industry
This initiative brings together the expertise of Feed Innovation Services, Beneficial Microbes Consultancy, ForFarmers, Marvesa, and Bialtec in an innovation project supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The collaboration combines expertise in feed formulation, microbiology, biotechnology, and animal nutrition to explore new opportunities for sustainable poultry production.
At Bialtec, we continue to take our research beyond borders, connecting science and technology with the real challenges facing the industry.
Because transforming animal nutrition also means discovering new ways to make better use of resources and make the invisible visible.
